Will Your Facility Lend a Hand by Becoming a FEMA Resource Center?

Who can forget Katrina and Rita?  With the 2006 hurricane season starting in June, there is no way to predict the number of tropical storms or natural disasters that will affect our land.  There are, however, steps we as facility managers can take to be more prepared and lend assistance to those in need.

At our annual symposium in January in Murfreesboro, we had as one of our guest speakers Vern Wingert from the Federal Emergency Management Association.  Still reeling from the devastation in New Orleans, FEMA is eager to recruit facilities willing to make their resources available to FEMA for the upcoming hurricane season or for other types of disasters or emergencies that may arise in the future.

Matt Wade is serving as a liaison between League members and FEMA.  If your center would be willing to pursue a discussion with FEMA about making its assets and resources available to FEMA and other federal agencies for the upcoming hurricane season, please get in touch with Matt as soon as possible.  He is the manager at the Tennessee Livestock Center in Murfreesboro.

Matt’s phone number is (615)898-5575.  His e-mail address is mwade@mtsu.edu.
